Boscia Luminizing Face Mask Review

I was recently sent a bottle of Boscia’s Luminizing Black Charcoal Mask for reviewing purposes from Influenster, in what is known as a Vox Box. (If you’re interested in learning how to score free Vox Boxes from Influenster for yourself, sign up here!). I knew I was receiving the mask ahead of time, as you have to fill out a survey so they can match the right influencers with the right products, BUT I wasn’t expecting it to be full size! More product means I can give a more accurate review since I can test it at least a couple times! So that’s exactly what I did. And honestly, I’m kind of hooked.

What Does It Do?

The Boscia Luminizing Charcoal Mask is a peel-off mask enriched with vitamins, minerals & activated charcoal. You apply a thick layer, let it sit for 20 minutes and once dry, gently peel it off. The mask claims to improve oiliness, dullness/uneven texture, minimize pores & brighten your complexion.

Arguably the coolest part about peel-off masks is that they serve a dual purpose. The vitamins and minerals soak into your skin while the mask dries. Once dry, the peel-off portion strips impurities from the pores.

The activated charcoal & clay absorb excess oil & impurities while the rest of the ingredients go to work to nourish the skin’s elasticity, hydration & brightness.

Packaging & Pricing

The packaging is pretty on par with all other face masks, it comes in a squeezable plastic tube. The bottle’s design is simple & clean, including a shiny black exterior with white text.

The product is sold at Sephora and comes in two sizes,Β 2.8 oz/ 80 g for $34.00 USD orΒ 2.8 oz/ 80 g for $49.00 USD.

The Ingredients

The Boscia Luminizing Black Mask is derived from natural ingredients, including Jojoba Leaf, Willowherb, Vitamin C, Maritime Pine Bark Extract & Calcium Montmorillonite Clay.

The mask has been awarded the “Clean At Sephora” seal, meaning Sephora has verified that the product is free of sulfates, parabens, formaldehydes, formaldehyde-releasing agents, phthalates, mineral oil, retinyl palmitate, oxybenzone, coal tar, hydroquinone, Triclosan, Triclocarban and contains less than 1% of synthetic fragrances.

Does It ACTUALLY Work?

Being a bit of a face mask aficionado I have certainly tried out my fair share of face masks (I literally have an entire bin full). I’m usually left unimpressed with the results of most masks, most likely due to having difficult, overly sensitive combination skin. On top of that, luminizing products never seem to work for me – my skin still looks boring and dull. However, this mask actually came through with the claims AND exceeded what I was expecting.

After the first use my skin was super soft for days. My makeup went on so much more smooth due to the product removing dry patches of skin (and possibly a few baby hairs as well). My (rather large) pores seemed a little less noticeable, at least to me. I also noticed there was a bit of a healthy radiance to my skin, which is a rarity for me.

On the downside, I did notice that you have to use quite a bit of product and that the bottle doesn’t contain a whole heck of a lot, so in the future I will likely just use it as a spot treatment and not a full-face type of deal. The peel is ungodly strong, so it’s imperative to peel it off super slow and not get it near your eyebrows & hair line when applying. I don’t love how hard it tugs on the skin, but I so long as you don’t use too frequently you’ll be ok! πŸ™‚

I would definitely recommend this product to anyone with oily skin who’s looking for softer, brighter skin. I wouldn’t use it more than once a week max, due to how firm that darn peel is and how much it tugs at your skin. I will likely use it more as a spot treatment, and not the entire face as to save on the product usage.

I’m glad that the ingredients are clean & natural. The older I get the more aware I’m becoming of the ingredients used in all my cosmetic & skin care products. I intend to move towards a fully natural beauty arsenal. It’s nice to know that in doing that I’ll be able to keep this mask around! πŸ™‚
